On Tuesday afternoon, the department issued an alert advising that the officer who brought a woman into the back of his police vehicle after embracing and seemingly kissing her will be stepping away as they investigate the TikTok, which has been viewed more than 2.3 million times after being widely circulated online.
The video was posted on Labor Day and had garnered thousands of comments that ranged from clever to cross.
"One bad apple spoils a bunch," one Twitter user posted. "One reason why no one trust(s) police officers."
The officer and woman still have not been positively identified by the department.
"PGPD Executive Command is aware of a video circulating on social media with one of our officers," they posted on Twitter. "As soon as we became aware earlier today, we opened an investigation to determine the circumstances."
